Christmas Tree Decorating for Under $70

We had plans for a gorgeous home to be built and finished here in North Dakota by the time we got married.  So I would move into a brand new house just in time to decorate for Christmas!  It was perfect.  But like so many tell you home building never goes as planned.  We ended up not being able to build our home because our builder did not have his finances straight.  We decided not to continue the building process, and for now we are going to continue hanging out in our one bedroom apartment for a little longer until we can find the perfect home at the right price.  The only problem with this is, the majority of our stuff, including my gorgeous collection of Christmas decorations, is in storage.  Christmas is my favorite holiday, and I absolutely love decorating for it!  I did not want to spend a lot of money on ornaments or trimming for the tree since I already have a good collection.  Our main tree was a 5 or 6 foot Dollar Store tree that I got for $20.  It was pretty puny with large gaps but I made it look pretty good with lots of big ornaments, garland, and all kinds of picks.  Since, we've gotten married, I figured we should own a nice tree that is a little bigger.   Target was having an awesome sale on Christmas trees during the Black Friday weekend.  I think I saved $60 or $70 on this tree and it is beautiful!  I ended up not getting a prelit tree.  My mom always has trouble with hers and I have tons of Christmas lights from the wedding.  Once I got the tree I headed to Michaels to find some great ribbon that was 40% off.  I figured I could decorate the tree with ribbon and skip the ornaments and other trimming to create a good-looking tree without spending too much on decorations.  I am happy to say I am very pleased with what I was able to accomplish with about $60! Keep reading for tips, tricks, and the details.

We already had the cow hide rug.  Since I don't have a tree skirt and I did not want to spend time making one or trying to find one, I just slid it under the tree.  It give the tree a great rustic feel.

I used this tutorial that shows you how to use ribbon to fill your tree!  I put 3-4 different ribbons together with floral wire and wired them to the tree.  This is a great way to make your tree look like one of those trees dripping with decorations.

The antlers are real mule deer antler shed that C has found out hunting.  He loves this aspect of the tree.

I used this tutorial to make the gorgeous green and plaid ribbon that looks like designer ribbon for less.  It's super wide and add so much to the tree.  I used 2 rolls of 2 1/2 inch and 1 rolls of 1 1/2 inch ribbon.

Irresistible Me Hair Extension Review

SHIRT: Target | JEANS: Express | EARRINGS: Boutique (similar) | HAIR EXTENSIONS: c/o Irresistible Me | HEADBAND: Ulta

I mentioned these real hair extensions in my last post here, but today I will be giving you a detailed review!

I have been wanting clip in extensions for sometime now, so I jumped on this offer when Irresistible Me reached out to me.  Searching their website it was a little difficult for me to figure out which color would match my hair best.  They do have a video where they compare colors side by side and they have now added Instagram photos at the bottom of each product page showing real people wearing the specific color extensions.  At first I ordered the Silky Touch Extensions in Honey Blonde.  It was close to my hair color but it was a little too dark.  Irresistible Me does not recommend adding highlights to the extensions.  If you cannot find a perfect color match, they recommend buying a lighter shade and adding in low lights.  Fortunately, the extensions are packaged where you can open a tester piece first to make sure the hair color matches.  As long as you only open the tester piece, you are able to exchange the extensions for a different color.  I ended up exchanging for the Platinum Blonde.  They matched almost perfectly when I got them in.  I recently got my hair done and added in some low lights.  Right now my hair is a little ashier than the extensions, but I am going to try and use my purple shampoo on them to help them become a little more ashy.  I will let you know if it works or not!

I am very happy with the thickness of these extensions.  My hair is already a decent length, but I am always looking for ways to make my hair thicker.  This Texas girl likes big hair!!  These extensions help to add body and volume to my hair.  For reference, I ordered the 22" Silky Touch 200 g in Platinum Blonde.  It came with one 7.5" waft with 4 clips, two 6" wafts with 3 clips, five 4" wafts with 2 clips, and two 1.2" wafts with 1 clip.  There is no way I could put every waft in my hair, but it is nice to have extras.

As for comfort, I wish I would have gotten the 20" extensions instead of the 22".  The thickness along with the length, adds a lot of weight.  Plus they are super long!  They were a little uncomfortable the first time I wore them, but I wore them yesterday without much discomfort at all.  I think placement has a lot to do with it.  I have fine hair and not much of it, especially on the crown of my head.  Also add in a few cow licks that don't allow my hair to lay flat, which makes hiding the extensions hard, so I had to strategically place them where they couldn't be seen.  Since the hair is a lot longer than my natural hair, I couldn't just add 1-2 bigger wafts because there would be 2 definite lengths.  I needed to add multiple wafts at different heights on my head so they would blend better.  To keep them covered, I had to place them almost on top of each other which caused a little pulling.

Overall, I am very please with the extensions!  I cannot attest to durability and lifespan since I have only had them for about 2 weeks.  As of right now though, I would recommend them, especially for the price!  They are some of the cheaper real hair extensions I have seen.  They are also running a great 4th of July sale right now.  Up to 30% off!

Do you wear extensions?  If so I would love to know your tips, tricks, and thoughts down below,  Happy Fri-YAY y'all!

Summer Fields

DRESS: Old Navy | VEST: JCPenney (similar) | SHOES: Target | SUNGLASSES: Nordstrom | EARRINGS: Charming Charlie (love these) | BRACELET: Target | HAIR EXTENSIONS: Irresistible Me 22" Platinum Blonde

This field y'all!  Many people will say the land in North Dakota is very flat.  Which some parts are, but where we live it is more like small rolling hills.  There is a lot of farming that goes on and it is beautiful how they farm  throughout the rolling hills.  This is some kind of crop that is blooming tons of yellow flowers right now.  I can't wait to find some beautiful sunflower fields in a month or so!

I picked this dress up at Old Navy this past week.  It is very comfortable and I can't pass up a fun floral pattern.  I am also wearing Irresistible Me Hair Extensions.  This is my first time wearing extensions and I really like them.  They were a little hard to hide in my thin hair, but I managed to hide them pretty well.  These are 22" long so they gave me tons of length and helped to volumize my hair.  They are real hair so I was able to style them with my curling iron along with my hair to help them blend seamlessly.  I am working on a detailed review that should be posted within the next 2-3 weeks.  So check back if you are interested in getting a pair for yourself!
