Cozy Style

PONCHO: Target (love thisthis, and this) | SHIRT: Target (similar) | JEANS: J Brand (similar) | BOOTIES: Target (similar) | EARRINGS: Old (similar)

The snow is melting here and it's just yucky.  It still isn't warm enough for me to sport shorts and a t-shirt but this poncho is just cozy enough without getting too hot.  Obviously these booties are an absolute fave of mine.  I got them a few years back at Target but I have linked similar ones.  My husband loves when I wear heels, so booties have been my best friend.  They usually have a thick heel that keeps them comfortable but gives you a little lift, if you know what I mean!  They have really made my husband and feet happy!

Since the weather has been so good, I hope we can escape to the Badlands this weekend for some fun in nature and maybe some cool pictures!!  Happy Friday loves!

Looking Cute in the Winter

SWEATER: Forever 21 (similar) | JEANS: J Brand (similar, on sale) | HAT: TJ Maxx (almost identical) | SCARF: TJ Maxx (almost identical) | BOOTS: Herberger's | SOCKS: TJ Maxx (similar)

When you live in a place where it is literally freezing most of the winter, you have to learn how to accessorize to stand out because your cute sweater will be covered up, most of the time, by a big parka so you don't freeze to death!  I've learned to play up my style with fun shoes, hats, scarves and socks!  When we moved to North Dakota I knew that was an excuse to get some duck boots.  Unfortunately LL Bean Boots are almost impossible to come by at this time of the year, so I opted for these.  I love the Sherpa lining that is visible, along with the mix of browns and grey tones.  My rule for snow boots is get a pair that can be worn with everything in your closet, so that is why both of mine have brown and black mixed in.  Fur pom poms are like my obsession this season.  When my best friend gave me this hat I was so excited.  It is warm, comfy and really adds a great pop of color to this outfit.  Lastly, no girl can forget a good blanket scarf, right?!

Have a fabulous evening loves!

Making a Small Apartment Home

Our move to North Dakota didn't go as planned.  We were suppose to already have a house built and be moved in.  Well God had other plans.  We aren't building anymore and we are undecided whether we will buy a house or not.  So for now, we've gone from a 3 bedroom house to a 675 square foot apartment.  It really isn't horrible for 2 people but organization and storage is hard and our closets are busting at the seams.

I have been reluctant to decorate or even try to make this little apartment feel like home, but I've decided to get over my pouting and just do it and it's perfect timing!  We are living in a furnished apartment for now, but we will be receiving our stuff from our old house next week.  I can't wait!  I have been searching Pinterest to find ways to increase storage in small spaces but also add some glamour.  Here are some ways both you and me can get the most of our space and create an inviting atmosphere.

Declutter and don't go overboard on the decorations

In a small space you don't have room for tons of decor items or junk.  Get rid of anything you can!  That sounds harsh, but I know you and me both needed to hear it.  There is no extra room for clutter and clutter does not say inviting.  Our clutter spot always tends to be the coffee table.  I plan to get rid of what I can and replace it with 1 or 2 small decorative items that add warmth and appeal to the living room.  I love the lantern and the candles in the picture above.  Another thing about decor, try to find things that will carry you throughout the seasons.  With a lantern you can add small things in it or around it for each season, so there is less seasonal decorations to store.

Personalize your space

Put up pictures and wall decor!  You cannot truly make a place feel like home without adding personalization.  Also don't invest in a lot of large pieces that won't easily fit into a new home if you move.  For us I can easily recreate the wall decor above.  We actually have a big marquee letter just like this.  I want to display our wedding and engagement pictures but I have opted not to order canvas at this time because I don't want to make that investment until I know exactly where they will go.  The letter will add a large focal point, so I can use smaller 5x7 or 8x10 pictures to frame it.  Personalization for us also means we can't forget to add some Texas flair.  Texas will always be our home and we are those Texas people.  We love our home state and like to proudly display it!  Don't every forget where you came from.

Add an entry way or command center with storage

In a small space I'm sure you don't have room for an elaborate entry way or command center.  Usually that means the keys and mail end up on your dining table or on your counter space which is already small enough!  Try to find a place to add a small area for the daily things to be set and if you can get added storage our of it go ahead.  We have a very small area right when you walk into our apartment.  I'm hoping to incorporate a  small piece of furniture like the Ikea Kallax Shelving Unit for that space and add something rustic on top like the pallet art above,

Using things you already own

Shop your own house for things that can be repurposed or reused in different ways.  I bought a cowhide rug a while ago and I've used it as a rug in the living room and I also used it as my tree skirt this year.  That way I didn't have to buy a tree skirt and store it for 10 months out of the year!

Make your bedroom inviting and feel bigger

Dark colors will always make things look smaller.  That's why the little black dress is so popular!  Add a white bedspread or duvet cover to your bed.  I promise it will make the room feel bigger and give your room a bright and airy feel.  You can add texture or color with a throw at the end of your bed.  For my room, I plan on adding a headboard that looks similar to the one above.  I think a mix of old and new always make a home feel more inviting.

Make your storage functional and gorgeous

For functionality, use your dresser as a TV stand in the bedroom, situate your desk where it can be used as a night stand, and don't forget to use the space under your bed!  You can also add a hanging chandelier above your bedside table so a lamp doesn't take actually take up space on it.  And open shelves are gorgeous if done right in my opinion.  Add some pretty boxes to hide unwanted clutter and display things neatly.

I hope these tips helped you and I hope this inspiration board helps me create a beautiful and inviting home!

Winter Neutrals

SWEATER: JCPenney | TOP: Old Navy (similar herehere) | JEANS: Express | BOOTIES: Target (similar) | EARRINGS: Sam Moon

On Saturday we had what most people from our area of North Dakota would say was an actual day of winter.  Single digit temperatures that creeped well below zero as the sun set.  The cold didn't stop us from getting outside for a little bit though!  My ears got so cold taking these photos they were numb when we walked back inside.  Literally could not feel them!

We headed out to dinner afterwards and to the movies to see The Revenant. Colton loved the movie; me not so much. It wasn't bad, but let's be real, it wasn't a romantic comedy it was a man movie!!

Neutrals and whites for winter make my heart happy, and I just can't get enough of the faux fur this season!  This outfit combines all my winter loves. I always feel like I look a little brighter in winter white compared to the usual darker colors.  JCPenney is one of the very few clothing stores my small town has to offer, so I was over joyed when I found this sweater in my store. I knew it would be perfect, cozy, and warm!!

Hope you had a fabulous weekend my friends!  What's your favorite winter trend?

Red Lodge

JACKET: Lands End | SWEATER: Forever 21 (similar) | JEANS: J Brand (similar) | BOOTS: Sorel | GLOVES: Mod Cloth (similar here and here) | HAT: Forever 21 (similar) | SCARF: Old

Here is another look from our time in Red Lodge, Montana.  We didn't ski so I told C we had to do something while we were there other than get some much needed rest.  So he took me up to see the ski mountain and we pulled off the side of the road on the way back down the mountain and took some pictures with the beautiful snow covered trees in the background.  There is just something about snow covered trees.  They are just gorgeous!  The snow was so deep where we were taking pictures.  Every other step I was falling into fresh power that was at least up to the middle of my shin.

After we took pictures in the trees, we tried to find a hiking trail.  It was pretty cold out and had just snowed.  All the hiking trails we drove didn't look like too much fun in those conditions so we saw this river flowing beside the highway, so again we just pulled right off and went exploring.  Gosh this stream was so beautiful, and the sun was just starting to set creating a gorgeous glow on the top of the trees.  To get even better pictures we ventured, carefully into the middle area of the river that was frozen.  C accidentally broke through the ice in one area but barely got his shoe wet thankfully.  We had such a fun time being in nature and admiring the beautiful things God has given us for free!  God is amazing y'all!

Now about the outfit.  I searched and searched for this jacket when I found out we were moving to North Dakota!  It's the Lands End Tulip Hem Down Coat.  It first came out last year.  I adore this jacket because it's down filled so it's warm, it has a tulip hem which makes it a little bit different than the standard warm coat, and it has a belt so you can make your waist look small even in the midst of all the puffiness!  It is still available in select sizes on the website, so if you are planning to vacation somewhere cold or live somewhere cold I would say go getcha one!  I love it!!

Sequin Leggings

SWEATER: TJ Maxx (similar here and here, love this) | SEQUIN LEGGINGS: Viva La Jewels (would not recommend) | SHOES: Payless (similar) | PURSE: Michael Kors (similar) | FUR POMPOM: Nordstrom (similar) | EARRINGS: Charming Charlie (similar here and here)

I wore this outfit on Christmas Day!  It was super comfortable and was a little dressy but not too over the top for a day of running around seeing all our family members.  I had plans of wearing these leggings many more times this season.  With a cute black peplum top for New Years Eve and a light pink shirt near Valentine's Day, but I am sad to say these were very bad quality leggings.  Before lunch was over I had huge spots between my legs that had no sequins left.  I am not sure if you just need a thigh gap to wear them or if these were made poorly.  Another thing you need to know before you purchase a pair of your own, is be prepared to have your legs stuck together all day.  The sequins catch on each other!  I really hope to find a pair that hold up better because they are so fun and cute.

I wish these pictures showed the detailing on my sweater a little better.  It has small gold studs surrounding the neckline.  It is the perfect detail to compliment the leggings.  The sweater also has an over sized fit without being too bagging, which is great for a smaller frame.  Lastly, my new purse was an outlet mall score and my Christmas present from C!  This is seriously the first name brand purse I've owned.  I am a little over the moon, like a little kid in a candy shop!  It isn't anything fancy, we got it on super sale but it feels so nice.  Not like all the cheapy purses I own.  I still doubt you will see me with a closet full of expensive purses, though.  I like my money too much!

We are back in snow covered North Dakota now.  It was so great getting to see family and friends, but man it felt like work being home.  I Christmas shopped every day leading up to Christmas, then once Christmas hit, we had a family event to go to every day until we left.  I did get to hit up Santa's Wonderland (a Texas must see) and fit in a night of driving around looking at Christmas lights.  It made my little Christmas obsessed heart happy.  Luckily this occurred before C got into town.  He isn't as Christmas obsessed as me!  I also got to see all my girlfriends who still live in town which was such a joy.  I can't wait to visit again, but I am praying that God leads me to make new friends here and make North Dakota more like home.

How have y'all adjusted to moving to a new town and making new friends?  Also, have you found an awesome pair of sequin leggings?  If so, do share please!!
